Police in Mpigi District, Uganda have arrested three students for allegedly stealing four school computers worth Shs3.2 million (N286, 000) at St. Jude Secondary School in Katende village.
According to Mr Ahmed Kimera Sseguya, the District Police Commander, the suspects were arrested on Wednesday evening after the school’s director, Mr Charles Bwenvu, reported to police about theft of newly-purchased computers.
“After receiving this information, we visited the school, checked in all buildings and our officers found the computers in a rooftop of one of the classrooms. It is a pity to find our young boys engaging in such acts of theft and burglary. We shall discipline them accordingly,” Mr Kimera said.
The suspects confessed that they stole the computers from the school’s laboratory and it was not their first time to engage in theft.
“We sell them in Luzira, a city suburb at a cheap price and it is Geoffrey Kasasa who links us to the buyers because he stays there when he leaves school,” Atwine said.
Mr Bwenvu told police that each computer was worth Shs800,000 (over N70,000).
