“No One Can Change What God Has Destined” — Senator Ekwunife Says Ahead Of Re-run Election

The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu on Monday nullified the election of Uche Ekwunife as senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District. The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a fresh election within 90 days to elect a new senator for the senatorial district. Below is a message from the senator ahead of the re-run election….

She wrote on her Facebook page;

Further to the unfortunate declaration of Appeal Court that the March 28, 2015 Senatorial election which was duly conducted by INEC and won by me is annulled, I call on all my supporters to remain calm and steadfast.

The election was one that all of us worked tirelessly and invested our resources to secure our victory. Above all, God in His infinite mercy sealed the victory and therefore no human being can change what God has destined.

Today, following from this pronouncement, I implore all to join forces once again and employ same formula to enable us achieve same victory.

Let me assure you that nine months after the election, I am stronger, better positioned and above all, more determined to serve my people as a Senator. While in the Federal House of Representatives, I served my Constituency well and after two terms, my people advised that I moved up to Senate and allow others to come on board.

Within my six months as a Senator , there has never been a dull moment for me. My qualifications, past and present performances coupled with my excellent working relationship with the leadership of the Senate earned me Chairman, Senate Committee Downstream Petroleum. In less than one month on this position, the issue of fuel scarcity is being pursued vigorously and all stakeholders are back to work.

I urge all to challenge ourselves (and co-opt our colleagues in opposing parties) to ensure that we enhance our margin of victory by achieving a minimum of 70% of votes cast.

It is clear to all of us that my victory is not in contest right from the Tribunal to the Appeal Court. The judgment delivered by the Appeal Court never doubted the fact that I won the election rather it dwelt on the technicality or otherwise of the PDP’s internal processes.

To the glory of God you the good people of Anambra Central Senatorial District chose me and gave me your mandate. We do not need to change a winning formula. I count on all of you.
